Peugeot 406 sought

Hi:

Rust has taken my 2001 Peugeot 406 1.8 sedan. Has anyone got a similar 4 door for sale? I´d prefer the mid-series with the revised grille and black instrument panel. At a push I´ll consider a station car but can´t manage the two-door, nice as it is.

It´s been a while since I started this search. Despite seeing 406s on the roads in Aarhus it seems few are for sale. A dealer in Hobro had a 1999 1.8 saloon on sale for about 45 seconds before it was sold. I just checked.
In Glostrup one is for sale with what looks like ropey upholstery and the (usual?) dangling sealing rubber around the driver´s door.
I´d almost consider a 607 but for the fact the rear seats don´t fold down (and so you can´t carry larger loads). And, of course, the 607 is perhaps a bit too wide and long.
I will carry on looking.

Well, the dealer who bought my old 406 rang up with one for sale. Alas, I was on vacation and could do nothing about it.
I read in the UK Guardian that the EU is considering banning the export of old cars.

If anyone has a 406 saloon (not diesel) please let me know.

My search continues. There have been a few new 406s added to the sales lists. One was a V6 TS6 which is an engine size I can live without. And the after-market alloy wheels are not so desirable. At the other end of the country is a base model-ish 1.8 which is nice but it´s a 1999 with the less pleasant interior and, for some reason, a two-dial HVAC panel. It´s a modest 10,000 kr but is an engros/cvr sale and probably looking for an exporter to send it off to sunnier climes.
This makes me reconsider if I can live with the extra bulk of the 607 and its unmovable rear-seat back. Has anyone here driven both a 406 and 607?

This week I have looked at a 406 station car with a 1.8 litre engine and also a 2.2 litre 607 from 2005.

The 406 estate is actually quite nice but definitely not the same as the saloon. Some of the difference is the engine. I tried the one with the silver engine cover, a different 1.8 from the car I had before. The gear shift is better and the steering even lighter. The ride feels more soft and the car rolls a bit on corners but it´s a smooth and comfortable car. The biggest drawback is the rear seating which lacks a rear centre arm-rest. The car I checked had some particular issues which meant I rejected it but it was entirely in line with the price.
The 607. Well. I am sure those of you who have them like them. But it does nothing the 406 can´t do other than the fact the cabin is a bit wider. I tried a 2.2 litre automatic. It´s smooth and fast enough and very quiet. But Peugeot must have had Germans in mind because the ride is not as smooth as a 406 and the steering is plain heavy and not very revealing. There´s lots to like about the car if you want a handsome car with lots of features. And the boot is huge. But I have learned that little is added to motoring life with girth and accessories. If the 607 at least rode as well as the 406 I´d be happy with it. But it doesn´t. Surprising. Whatever Peugeot learned with the 604, 505 and 405 and 406 was forgotten in the 607.

I can recommend Ring Biler in Naestved where I tested the cars. They have some nice Peugeots on sale and the service is super friendly. They were very helpful indeed.

The process of finding a replacement for my old 406 is nearing an end. On the way I tried a Citroen C5 Mk1 2006 model hatchback. It was nice to drive but flakey - the upholstery was sagging and the trim was made to a low quality. The Xantia and XM I tried were made to a far higher standard (by which I mean entirely adequate and pleasant). The C5 was a large car with large features made to a standard from the B-class. I never tried a 407 and the C5 experience indicates I´d not have been impressed.

Does anyone have wheel covers for a 2002 Peugeot 406 1.8 litre for sale? If you´re in Jutland that would be handy.

I have a Peugeot-branded boot liner for a saloon and also 4 floor mats if anyone is interested. They are in Aarhus and are free.
If anyone has some Peugeot wheelcovers I´d be interested in hearing from them. The plain metallic ones are what I am after - nothing with black painted areas on it.

Sorry, I don't have wheelcovers, but if you ever need a rear wheel bearing, I have one new sealed.

The wheelcovers didn´t fit. There is a 1cm difference in diameter. It makes me wonder if the steel wheels on the car are slightly different from the ones it was sold with or if the wheelcovers are just wrong. Does anyone want some wheelcovers?

The wheelcovers are 14" ones for a Peugeot 406 or 306. I have bought 15" ones.
Does anyone want them?
The 406 I bought is running fine. It had new brake pads and an adjustment of an engine mount thingy. Apart from that the car is super. I have discovered the front centre armrests are a bit too high set and almost no use. And it has no cruise control. I didn´t expect that.

The brake pads are replaced and the clonking sound traced to an engine mount. Both repaired. Now the speedometer has decided to take holidays from time to time.

I have 14" wheel covers available for free.  They fit the 306 I believe.

I have another give-away: does anyone want 15 years of the UK magazine "Car"?  I am moving and can´t store them anymore. They are located in Aarhus.  It amounts to 180 glossy magazines, what was once called "Britain´s Best Car Magazine".
